(1) Black English has a number of distinctive syntactic features. One prominent syntactic feature is the frequent absence of various forms of the copula “be” in Black English, which are required of Standard English. Compare the following sentences in Black English and Standard English:
Black English ./Standard English.
He nice. /He' s nice.
You crazy. You ’ re crazy.
As can be seen that Black English can omit the copula in the present tense whenever Standard English can use a contracted form of the verb.
(2) Another distinctive syntactic feature of Black English is the systematic use of the expression "it is"，instead of "there is" in Standard English,e. g. , Is it a Mr. Smith in this office?
(3) Still another distinctive feature of Black English is that it uses double negation constructions,
e. g, Black English ：
He don't know nothing.
He ain't got none.
Standard English：
He doesn't know anything.
He hasn 't got any.
